The other day, employees, the board, customers and consultants celebrated Homatic’s 30th birthday at Salling Rooftop in Aarhus.
Thorvald Hørup was the new father of his second child when the thoughts of creating his own business arose. Over Christmas 1993, another child was born – the development house Homatic.
On the lower floor of his private home, the young engineer developed his first task – a prototype for a device that could detect counterfeit dollar bills – and quickly became a first-mover in the field.
The Federal Police in the United States spotted the product developed in Vitten near Aarhus and a collaboration arose. The test equipment went like hot cakes in China, but the party ended abruptly before the Chinese figured out how to copy the counterfeit detector.
However, this did not extinguish the entrepreneurial spirit, and new customers, new collaborations and the first employees were added.
“For 3 decades, Homatic has not only survived in an ever-changing industry, but has been a pioneer of technological innovation and engineering. The journey has been a constant quest to understand and anticipate the technologies of the future. It has not only been a journey of professional development, but very much a journey of human development. At Homatic, we don’t talk so much about resources, but about people. People who, with their expertise, passions and drive, form the core of everything we do,” says Chairman of the Board of Directors of Homatic Søren Elisiussen.
From development house to consultancy
The child is now an adult and experienced. It is still located in Vitten near Aarhus, but the engineers have moved out to the companies, and a sales team has moved in.
In 2017, the board decided to transform the development house into a consulting firm, which quickly became a success and peaked in 2023 with a Gazelle award. Homatic has the pleasure of working with some of the country’s most talented consultants, and customers include Danfoss, Vestas, Grundfos, Universal Robots, Terma and Ørsted.
“We have created a company with great employee diversity consisting of strong professional skills and good human qualities, so we are well equipped for the future. It is our employees, partners and customers who deliver the good work effort every day, ensure good cooperation and create job satisfaction. I’m already looking forward to the next 30 years,” says the CEO with a laugh.
The top is the view of the next mountain
Rasmus Kragh, who is the first and only Dane to have climbed the world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, without the use of artificial oxygen, also participated in the birthday celebration. With his personal story, he provided a fascinating perspective on climbing inner and outer mountains.
