Consulting as a technical writer.
After a few months of unemployment, Kamilla was more than ready to use her skills from her education as an MSc in Economics and Business Administration. She therefore did not need a long period of reflection when the consultancy Homatic contacted her on LinkedIn and asked if she was interested in coming for an interview at Innoscan. Innoscan is part of the Stevanato Group and is one of Homatic’s loyal customers. They are leaders in manufacturing machines for quality control of pharmaceutical products.
“In the world of pharmaceuticals, there is a lot of focus on documentation, and it is not necessarily something that falls to an engineer or a technician easily. We needed someone to handle and keep track of all this documentation,” says Steen Bonde, Head of Service Operations.
Stevanato Group has hired technical writers in the project organization, but in the service organization it was a new function, and a six-month consulting period was therefore agreed.
“I use my education and organizational understanding a lot because there is so much communication at different levels. The best thing about my job is that I talk to many different professionals. Right now, I’m working on test plans, and here it’s about talking to the technicians, understanding what they’re saying and communicating it further,” says Kamilla Gaardboe.
Consultancy led to permanent employment
The new function in the department has been a great help for the engineers and a function that was definitely needed, according to Steen Bonde. And even though Kamilla didn’t make many references, there was absolutely no reason to worry:
“Fortunately, Kamilla is a wonderfully open person who does not have challenges kicking in doors and reaching out to people if she needs help. She is good at keeping many balls in the air and at making sure that she gets the necessary information and moves the right people so that the documents live up to the standard that is expected of our customers. An engineer would rather build than describe. When they write, there can be a bit of nerdiness in it,” explains Steen Bonde.
After the six months, Kamilla Gaardboe slipped straight into a permanent position as a technical writer. During the consultant process, she experienced good sparring with Homatic, who was on the sidelines throughout the process and in continuous dialogue with both her and Steen Bonde.
Kamilla Gaardboe would definitely recommend other recent graduates to look towards the consultancy firms as a possible way into the job market:
“Homatic was really good at highlighting my skills and how I could help Stevanato Group. They were good at drawing threads to what Stevanato Group needed and why I was a good match.”
