When the war in Ukraine changed the everyday lives of millions, Anastasiia Rohoza was faced with a choice. She had already worked for several years for Danish companies with offices in Ukraine, but in the summer of 2023, she made the decision to move to Denmark. Today, she lives in Fredericia and works as a specialist through Homatic, with responsibility for systems that must work around the clock.
When Anastasiia Rohoza left Odesa in Ukraine, it was not with a plan to start over in Denmark. It was a decision that grew out of a troubled time.
Anastasiia Rohoza and Jens Arendt had previously worked together in a Danish consulting environment in Ukraine, and when Jens later switched to Homatic, a concrete opportunity arose:
“I knew Anastasiia as a very strong professional profile. She works in a structured way and takes responsibility, and then she does not give up until the task is solved,” says Jens Arendt, and continues:
“When we were in need of the right skills for a task, she was the right choice, because it is first and foremost about professionalism.
The journey to Denmark
Anastasiia Rohoza left Odesa in Ukraine with her French bulldog and 90 kg of luggage, and she arrived in Denmark by bus. She lived briefly with Jens Arendt and his family and in a hotel before finding her own apartment in Fredericia.
“The most important thing for me was to be able to work. Having a job and being able to develop it means a lot to me, and that it could happen in Denmark, I have been really happy about,” says Anastasiia Rohoza.
Today, she primarily works with database building and system structure, but part of her time is also spent monitoring and managing technical incidents in critical operating environments. She is part of shift change schemes and handles operational disruptions that can occur around the clock.
If a system goes down, the phone rings:
“There is a constant development in my work, and I get more and different tasks. I’m very happy about that, because the most important thing in life is to keep learning,” says Anastasiia Rohoza.
She explains that the hardest thing for her in the beginning was the language and having to settle in a new country. Today, she speaks Danish, reads books to practice the language and she has established both a network and private life in Denmark.
Professionalism and social responsibility
For Jens Arendt, the story is not about social responsibility:
“We didn’t hire Anastasiia to help her, we hired her because of her qualifications and because she is talented. When you bring an employee to Denmark, it also comes with a responsibility, because it must be able to function both professionally and personally,” says Jens Arendt.
He explains that for Homatic, it is ultimately about delivering quality and finding the right skills for the customers, even if the consultants come from abroad.
“Denmark lacks specialists in technology and system development, and if we are to continue to deliver at a high level, we must also look beyond Denmark’s borders, and with Anastasiia’s journey from Odesa to Fredericia, we have gained an international specialist at a very high level,” says Jens Arendt.
